Tien Hong in Austin closed recently, so we've been trying to get our dim sum fix in dallas. Maxim's, Kirin Court, Arc-en-ciel - none are as good as Hong Kong Royal. Dumplings we ate - steamed shrimp, shrimp pot stickers, steamed shrimp/green onion, pan fried shrimp/green onion, pork shu mai. Also had BBQ pork pie, baked pork bun, steamed pork bun, curried chicken pie, egg rolls. All were great. The pork pot stickers were not as good as some we've had in Dallas, but the other dishes were much better than you can get anywhere in the area. When we're not in San Fran eating at Ton Kiang, we can get Hong Kong Royal to tide us over. Service is great too! Dishes are between $3 and $5 for most stuff. The four of us had tea, cokes and all the dim sum we could handle for $45. « Hide

Hong Kong Royal is a gem among Dallas Fort Worth restaurants. Great food, nice staff and very reasonably priced. Located in a suburban but very convenient location at the intersection of Frankford and Josey, not far from 190. I recommend going there for cart service on the weekend. I also recommend being adventurous; our favorite Dim Sum have become the ones that we were most hesitant to try at first. All that dumplings are great! « Hide

Hong Kong Royal is simply the best Chinese food in Dallas Fort Worth. We love it because it is clean and nice while have a very friendly staff which can all be fairly rare in the Chinese food world. Tack on to that the authentic food and the awesome dumplings, and you have a definite winner. As referenced in another review you can't miss the Shrimp and Spinach dumplings, they are great and authentic Hong Kong style Cantonese fare. Very very good. « Hide

One of the few places in the Dallas area to find authentic Chinese food and classic Dim Sum. Try to shrimp and spinich dumplings!‎

Who knew Dim Sum was so good? Who even knew what Dim Sum is? Basically it is Chinese tapas, and it is awesome. You can totally see in 10 years, Dallas having Dim Sum restaurants all over as they continue to catch on. I am always in search of good restaurants and heard about Hong Kong Royal from a friend and decided to check it out. We got there and it is in a somewhat generic surburban shopping center. As soon as I walked in I was surprised by a few things. 1- there are quite a few Chinese characters around, which I am just not use to seeing, 2- It was really nice and clean on the inside, which for a chinese restaurant can be a rarity and 3- it was much larger than it looked like from the outside, i think i was somewhat expecting a small dive restaurant and got a nicer bigger restaurant. We ordered our dishes and I had the General Tso's chicken with fried rice and we order a few of the Dim Sum dishes to try. My General Tsos was good but I was also regretting getting it as the Dim Sum dishes started to come out. The Egg Rolls were good, but to some extent a decent egg roll is a decent egg roll, but the shrimp toast, shrimp/spinach dumplings, scallops, and regular shrimp dumplings were amazing. They also had "Shrimp Balls" which were awesome and I don't even know the best way to describe what they were, kind of like mutliple shrimp made into a ball and fried. We tried some other ones as well that I really liked but I can't now remember the names. If you want authentic Chinese food, you need to check out Hong Kong Royal. « Hide
